How to Bookmark in Chrome Android and Access/Delete them?

Vishnu

Bookmarks are a great way to collect pages on the web that interest you. Here’s how to add/manage/delete bookmarks on Chrome for Android.

What is a bookmark?

A bookmark in Chrome is a shortcut to a previously viewed web page allowing you to view it on the go without having to search for it again on the web.  When a page is bookmarked, Chrome stores the URL, title, and other contents of the page and displays it when you search for similar terms in the Omnibar.

What should you bookmark?

You can bookmark your favorite and most frequently visited websites and web pages. This can include your business website, social media sites, or any web pages you would like to visit later.

How to add a bookmark in Chrome Android?

If there is an interesting website that you want to visit later on, leaving the tab open to come back to it later might end up getting lost if you close the tab by mistake. To prevent the need to go through a very long history to find that one website you can always choose to bookmark the page instead.

  • On your Android device, open the Chrome app
  • Visit the site or page you want to bookmark
  • Tap the ⠇button on the top right corner
  • Tap on the ☆ button to bookmark the site or page

Once the star turns blue it indicates that the page is now bookmarked.

How to Delete Bookmarks in Chrome Android?

The Chrome web browser does an excellent job of allowing its users to sync various devices used by the same account, enabling users to use the same bookmarks, browsing history, autofill data, and various other logs across multiple devices.

This synching feature is convenient and useful; however,  it may cause the account profile to become cluttered with so many bookmarks that you stop using the bookmarks feature. When that happens, sometimes it’s best just to clear out the clutter and start fresh.

To keep your Google Chrome bookmarks bar decluttered, you should only keep the bookmarks that you actually use. If you have any unused bookmarked sites sitting there, here’s how to remove them.

Delete Individual Bookmarks on Mobile

  1. In Chrome on your Android phone, tap the three-dots menu and select “Bookmarks.
  2. Tap the folder in which you want to delete a bookmark.
  3. You will see all your bookmarks in your selected folder.
  4. To remove a bookmark, tap the three dots next to that bookmark.
  5. From the menu that opens, select “Delete.”
  6. A prompt at the bottom will allow you to undo the bookmark removal. If you do not tap on the Undo button the prompt will vanish in a few seconds.

Delete Multiple Bookmarks on Google Chrome Android

  1. If you’d like to delete more than one bookmark at once, use the Bookmarks menu on the android mobile.
  2. Before removing your bookmarks, export those bookmarks so you have a backup.
  3. Open the Chrome browser on your Android phone, tap the three dots menu and select “Bookmarks.”
  4. Click to open the folder in which you want to remove your bookmarks.
  5. Tap and hold on, to highlight the bookmark you want to delete. Then tap any other bookmarks to add them to your selection. When you have selected your bookmarks, in the top-right corner, tap the trash can icon.
  6. Chrome will remove your selected bookmarks.

If you have deleted all bookmarks in the folder, you might want to delete the now-empty folder as well. To do so, at the top of your screen, tap the pencil icon.

On the “Edit Folder” screen that opens, in the top-right corner, tap the trash can icon to remove the folder.

That is it, the folder will be gone.

How do I recover deleted Bookmarks in Chrome Android?

If you have a device that wasn’t connected to the internet at the time your bookmarks were deleted, this will be the best bet you can have at hand.

Now you can either:

Manually copy and paste your Chrome bookmarks into a text document. It’s a little time-consuming, but at least your bookmarks are safe. This works best if your bookmarks are organized into folders, because “Copy” will grab all of the links in that folder.

OR

Go to https://rongjiecomputer.github.io/chrome/bookmark-recovery/#windows and upload the bookmark file which you copied to the desktop. You’ll generate an HTML file which has all the bookmarks. Verify that file and make sure that you have all the bookmarks which you lost from Chrome on android.

Chrome For Android Bookmark 13

Download your bookmarks as an HTML file (make sure the internet is still turned off):

  1. Type chrome://bookmarks into your Chrome desktop browser.
  2. Click the three-dot button and select Export bookmarks.
  3. Save the file to a safe location.

Close all of your other Google Chrome sessions. Now turn the internet back on. Once online, come back to the Android device and click Import bookmarks. Your bookmarks should be completely restored.

Conclusion

A bookmark is handy when you find a web page that you want to remember and look at another day. When you bookmark a web page, you create a shortcut for quick access to that web page. You can access that bookmark at any time to view the web page again without having to search the Internet to find it.

Bookmarks too come in handy when it comes to security. Scammers usually draw the users to a fake website through a link on another site, an email or a number of other methods. Typically, the site the scammers are spoofing is a well-known name with a high level of exposure and trust. It may be a site that you are already a signed-up member for. Bookmarks will help you as the user to visit those sites safely by avoiding misdirections of the scammers.
